Using Clink
Deleting clips
Delete clips you no longer need. They go to the Windows Recycle Bin.
You can delete clips right from Clink. A deleted clip goes to the Windows Recycle Bin, so you can get it back. This is available in Clink 0.4.3 and later.
Delete a clip
Open your clips
Open the library (the pane on the right, or the Library tab in a narrow window), then Clips, then the Local list.
Press Delete
Each clip row has Trim, Share, a folder icon (Show in folder) and a trash-can icon (Delete). The Share button reads Copy link once a clip is shared. The Delete button is gray and turns red when you point at it.
Confirm
Clink asks "Delete clip?" Press Delete to go ahead.
Delete moves the clip file to the Recycle Bin. You can restore it from there. Clink never deletes clips permanently on its own.
The confirmation window
The "Delete clip?" window has Cancel and Delete. Cancel is the default, so pressing Enter or Esc closes the window without deleting anything.
Tick Do not ask again and press Delete. After that, the trash icon moves a clip straight to the Recycle Bin. Clips with trims still ask.
To get the confirmation back, go to the Alerts tab and press Reset "Don't show again".
Clips with trims
A clip that has trims shows a small count with an arrow next to its title, for example "2 >". Click it to show the trims.
Deleting a clip with trims always asks. The Do not ask again setting does not apply. You get three choices:
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Cancel | Nothing is deleted. |
| Delete full clip only | The full clip goes to the Recycle Bin. Its trims stay and show up as separate clips. |
| Delete clip and N trims | The clip and all its trims go to the Recycle Bin. |
Clink removes the trims first, then the clip. If something goes wrong part-way, Clink stops and tells you how many files were deleted. The rest stay.
If a trim can't be deleted right now, for example because it is open in the trim window or is uploading, the Delete clip and N trims button is turned off. The window says why. Delete full clip only still works.
Shared clips
Deleting a shared clip removes only the file on your PC. The share link keeps working, and the clip stays in the Shared list.
When Clink won't delete a clip
Clink shows a message on the row instead of deleting when:
- The clip is on a network or removable drive. The Recycle Bin can't take it.
- The clip is uploading.
- The clip is open in the trim window.
- The file is outside your clips folder and archive folder.
- The file is a shortcut to another location.
- Clink can't reach the file, for example because its drive or folder isn't available.
Clips in a OneDrive-synced folder can be deleted. OneDrive syncs the delete, so the clip is removed from OneDrive on all your devices. An online-only clip (not kept on this PC) does not go to the Windows Recycle Bin. Restore it from the OneDrive recycle bin on the web.
When the Recycle Bin can't take a clip
Delete normally moves clips to the Recycle Bin. If Windows can't recycle a file (for example the Recycle Bin is turned off for that drive, or the file is bigger than the Recycle Bin allows), Windows asks whether to delete it permanently. Choose No to keep the file. Clink then shows that the clip was not deleted. Choosing Yes deletes it for good.
