Nothing happens when I press Alt+C

Check the header on the Capture tab. "Waiting for a game…" means Clink hasn't detected a game, and in the default mode nothing records until it does. Add your game under Custom apps, or switch the recording mode to Always (whenever Clink runs). If the header says "Paused", resume from the tray. A Clip not saved notification gives the reason.

Another program may also use the same keys. Pick a different hotkey under Hotkeys.

Why is there a yellow border around my screen?

Windows draws a yellow border around any screen being captured. Clink asks Windows to hide it, and the border is never in your clips. The Capture tab says what happened:

  • "Yellow capture border: hidden by Clink."
  • "Yellow capture border: shown. Windows 11 or newer is needed to hide it." Windows 10 can't hide it.
  • "Yellow capture border: shown. Windows didn't let Clink hide it." Open Settings, Privacy & security, Screenshot borders. Turn on "Screenshot border settings access", "Let apps turn off the screenshot border" and "Let desktop apps turn off the screenshot border". Then pause and resume recording from the tray. The Open Windows setting button opens that page.

Another app capturing the same screen with its border on can bring the border back.

Clink may also show a "Yellow border around the screen?" notification. Press Don't show again to hide it. Bring it back with Reset "Don't show again" on the Alerts tab.

My screenshot is black

A game in exclusive fullscreen can give a black or stale screenshot. Clink warns "Screenshot is black". Switch the game to borderless windowed mode. See Screenshots.

My video clip looks wrong in an exclusive fullscreen game

Clink records exclusive-fullscreen games. Only screenshots can come out black there (see "My screenshot is black").

Colours look off on my HDR monitor

On HDR displays Clink captures in HDR and tone-maps the result for normal playback. Screenshots can't do this. They use a standard-range copy of the screen, so bright highlights are clipped.

Does Clink send my clips or data anywhere?

No. Clips, screenshots, settings and logs stay on your PC. Clink has no analytics or crash reporting. It makes these network connections only:

  • The update server, dl.euphoric.software (or dl-dev.euphoric.software if you turn on Dev Build), to check for and download updates. Turn off Install updates automatically (checks every 6 hours) to stop the background checks.
  • Copium, only if you sign in or share. Uploads happen only after you agree and press Share or Upload, or turn on automatic screenshot upload. Anything you upload is publicly accessible to anyone with the link. See Share to Copium.

Turn off Allow cloud sharing (Copium uploads for clips and screenshots) on the App tab to switch sharing off completely.

Where are my files?

Clips are in Videos\Clink. Recordings are in Recordings and screenshots in Screenshots, both inside your clips folder. Settings and the log are in %APPDATA%\Clink: use Open folder on the App tab. See Getting started.

I lost a warning or question I dismissed

Go to the Alerts tab and press Reset "Don't show again". It shows the yellow border notice and the delete clip question again.

Clink can't check for updates

The footer or the App tab shows "Last check failed" or "Update problem". Check your internet connection and press Check now. If it still fails, download the latest version from the Clink section of euphoric.software. See Updates.

Windows says 'Windows protected your PC'

Clink isn't code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may warn when you first run it. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

My game's audio isn't in the Game track

On Auto (fullscreen app), Clink uses the game it detects; until then, Game records everything except your voice app. If your game isn't detected, pick it from the Game list while it's running, or add it under Custom apps. The line under the tracks says what each track is capturing. See Audio tracks.

I can't record: no hardware video encoder

Clink needs a GPU with a hardware encoder (NVENC, AMF or Quick Sync). Update your graphics driver. AV1 needs an RTX 40, RX 7000 or Arc GPU. Pick H.264 or HEVC otherwise.
