Updates
How Clink updates itself, and how to try dev builds.
Clink updates itself. By default it checks for a new version in the background and installs it the next time you start Clink, so a recording is never interrupted.
Automatic updates
Install updates automatically (checks every 6 hours) is on by default. You find it on the App tab, in the updates section. Clink checks 30 seconds after it starts, then every 6 hours. It gets updates from the Euphoric Software update server, and only installs a download that passes a signature check.
When a new version is downloaded, Clink says "vX downloaded - installs on next start, or click 'Update to vX'". To install it now, use Update to vX in the footer or the tray menu.
With the setting off, Clink doesn't contact the update server on its own. Use Check now (App tab) or Check for updates (footer popup) when you want to look. If a newer version exists, Clink opens its release page instead of downloading it. Download and run the new file yourself.
The version popup
The footer of the window shows the version, such as "v0.4.4". Click it for update options:
- The installed version.
- Dev Build, described below.
- Check for updates.
- The Copium sign-in state.
Dev Build
Dev builds are early versions that may be unstable. They come from a separate feed.
To switch, click the version in the footer and tick Dev Build. Clink checks straight away ("Switched to dev builds - checking…"). The footer then reads "dev builds" after the version. Untick it to go back to the latest release ("Switched to releases - checking…"). It's off by default.
When an update fails
- Last check failed: Clink couldn't contact the update server, for example because you are offline. It tries again later, or press Check now.
- Update problem: the download or install failed.
- Update to vX could not be installed (or could not start, not installed): the message gives the reason and either tells you to retry with Check now (it's on the App tab) or to install the file by hand from the folder it names (
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Clink\updates, orupdates\fxfor the installed copy andClink-framework.exe). You can also download the latest version from the Clink section of euphoric.software and run it.
These messages appear in the footer and on the App tab. A download that keeps failing isn't tried again every cycle.
Portable and installed copies
Both update themselves. The portable Clink.exe replaces itself with the new version. The installed copy updates the same way. Downloaded files are in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Clink\updates. The installed copy and Clink-framework.exe download into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Clink\updates\fx.
